Crafting a quality first message is an art. Coming up with the perfect amount of information, while maintaining some mystery is the balance you need to secure a date, and hopefully more. Here are some tips for creating the perfect first message.

Information Overload

One thing you should try to avoid is writing a novel in your first message. Keep it short, sweet, and to the point. Your profile bio is the perfect place to list everything she’s ever wanted to know about you, not your first message. Ideally this should be about 2-3 sentences. An opener, mention what you like about her, and end it with a question or prompt her to respond if she’s interested.

Good Grammar

This is your only chance to make a first impression, so leave her thinking you are intelligent and well-mannered. To do that, you’ll need to maintain good grammar. “How r u?” is not a proper message for a woman you’d like to court. At least have the decency to spell your words out.

Detail Oriented

Take the time to (briefly) read her profile. Casually mention something you like about her so she knows it’s a special message you took time to write. Even if it is a copy and pasted message, change out a small detail that will apply to her. Bringing up a small nuance about her will make you seem like as a man who actually cares.

The Perfect Message

So, what is the perfect first message, you ask? Use something like this template if you’re really stuck, and feel free to be creative.

Hello (Her Name),

You seem like the type of woman I’d love to get to know. I’m a sucker for blue eyes like yours. Read my profile and let me know if you’re interested in meeting me, too.

Love,

Brook
